Colby Scott Flow of Amarillo, Texas, was born March 20, 2001, and passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023. Colby attended Puckett Elementary, Crockett Middle School, and was a 2019 graduate of Amarillo High School. Colby loved and was always competitive in sports from a young age; he was tough on the football field, quick as lightning on the basketball court, and spiderlike on a rock-climbing wall (even as the smallest athlete in the competition). Ultimately, Colby gravitated to golf as his sport of choice, where he excelled and became one of the top players in the Texas Panhandle. He was exceedingly proud of being a Team Captain on the Amarillo High Sandie Varsity Golf Team, where he assisted his team winning a District Title.
Colby was a faithful Christian man, having grown up attending Central Church of Christ (Amarillo) and, most recently, the Church of Christ at the Colonies (Amarillo). He enjoyed participating in youth group activities and camping at Camp Blue Haven in Las Vegas, New Mexico, where he was baptized by his father. As he matured, he routinely assisted with congregational worship by serving communion, leading prayer, and reading Scripture.
Upon graduation from Amarillo High School, Colby enrolled in the University of New Mexico (Albuquerque), from which he had received an Army Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC) Scholarship. Colby returned to Amarillo to complete his college career, where he enrolled at West Texas A&M University's Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business. Colby was a dedicated student, routinely appearing on the Dean's List and the President's List. Recently, Colby was honored to be inducted into the prestigious Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. Colby was scheduled to attend WT's Spring 2023 Graduation on May 13, 2023, to receive his Bachelor of Business Administration, with a major in Finance. Colby had already applied to, and had been accepted into, WT's Master's Program, where he was excited that he would be seeking a Master's Degree in Finance.
Colby was an extremely dedicated and hard-working young man. While enrolled as a full-time student at WT, Colby worked for Walgreens Pharmacy for over two years, where he learned valuable lessons in leadership and teamwork from his trusted friend and colleague LaNadia. Colby was considering a career as a lawyer and, most recently, had begun working as a Legal Assistant at Flow Law Firm.
Colby's many interests included a deep understanding of the US financial markets and their inter-play with the global economy and geo-politics, which he followed on a daily basis, and about which he was always willing to have a detailed conversation (you needed only to ask and then hang on). He was passionate about his list of the greatest movies of all time and could endlessly discuss and defend his position on his list. He was known for his exceptional ability to quote the movies that he loved (some from beginning to end). Colby loved to laugh and could always be counted on for a joke, a snappy retort, and his quick sense of humor.
Colby was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Gay Nell Flow of Austin, his paternal grandfather, Harvie Mac Pruitt and his wife, Charis Pruitt of Lubbock, and his adopted grandfather Alton Leroy "Pop" Haines of Amarillo. Colby is survived by his proud parents, Scott and Brenda Flow of Amarillo, his sister Cassidy Flow Beakley and husband, Lee, and his nephew, Asher, of Amarillo, his sister Chelsea Flow Stirman and husband, Riley, of San Antonio, his paternal grandfather, Richard R. Flow and wife, Cindi, of Kennebunk, Maine, his maternal grandmother, Celia Pruitt, of Lubbock, his adopted grandmother, Linda Haines, of Amarillo, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins from across the state of Texas and beyond.
Colby suffered a massive and fatal heart attack on Monday, May 8, 2023, while at work. Medical analysis and a battery of tests have yet to explain this unexplainable tragedy. The family wishes to thank Jennifer, Adrianne, Jazmine, Berkley and the team of caregivers at Northwest Texas Hospital for the care, kindness, and compassion that they showed Colby. Colby was a shining light in this world; he was a deep thinker, a trusted and faithful friend, a passionate listener, and a beloved son and brother. He was greatly loved and will be missed by many. He is gone too soon.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M., Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the Church of Christ at the Colonies, 4500 Wesley Road, Amarillo, Texas. Services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 12, 2023, at the Church of Christ at the Colonies, with Bret McCasland officiating.
