Colin Joseph DeSelm, 11, of Highland, IL, died Monday, July 28, 2025 in Highland, IL.
He was born February 13, 2014, to Ryan and Ashley (Nee Hemann) DeSelm, at Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, MO.
Colin was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and a student at St. Paul Catholic School. He loved his family immensely and was the best brother. He would read with Oliver at night, help Teddy build Legos, and was Louis’s best friend. He was the kid his parents could count on to help around the house and depend on. He was mature beyond his years, intelligent, compassionate, and always up for a challenge.
Colin loved fishing and sports – especially basketball, baseball, soccer and golf. He was a team member on Jr. Bulldogs basketball, Highland Bulldog baseball, GlenEd soccer, St. Paul soccer, St. Paul basketball, St. Paul track, and St. Paul chess team. He was previously a team member at the Highland Quarterback Club. He played in the Junior Golf program at the Highland Country Club and was a proud member of the Highland Rugby organization, learning the sport from his dad.
Colin was everyone’s friend; it didn’t matter if they were younger or older. He made everyone feel comfortable around him. He developed strong, deep friendships with his buddies who did everything together.
Colin was a hilarious kid and enjoyed making people laugh -often doing so without saying a word. He always had a smile on his face, and it was contagious. He was a wonderful child, brimming with talent and the biggest heart. He will be missed dearly.
He is survived by his parents, Ryan and Ashley DeSelm, Highland, IL; brothers, Louis, Teddy, and Oliver DeSelm; maternal grandparents, Kevin and Louise Hemann; paternal grandparents, John and Jean DeSelm; aunts, Mandy (Rick) Ringwald, Amber (Aaron) Durbin, Abby (Ato) Jackson-Koufie, numerous cousins, great aunts and uncles.
