Colleen Devalon Rech, 75, died Oct. 30.
Colleen was born Feb. 22, 1950, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Frances and Earle Devalon, the third of five children. She was 8 years old when the family moved to Westfield, N.J.
Colleen attended college at the University of Dayton, graduating in 1972 with a degree in psychology. It was at the University of Dayton where she met her future husband, Jim Rech. She later earned her master's degree in counseling at the University of New Mexico.
Jim and Colleen were married May 4, 1974, in Westfield, N.J. They lived nearly all their 51 years of marriage in the Colorado Springs – Monument area.
Their beloved daughter Shannon was born in 1994.
Colleen worked for the El Paso County Department of Human Services in Child Protective Services. She retired after 25 years.
After retirement, Colleen owned a business selling Colorado collectables at the American Classics Marketplace in Colorado Springs. She loved Navajo art, Irish culture, and any animal, especially horses and cats. She was an accomplished artist. She loved music from the 1950s through the 1970s. In fact, she could sing every popular song from that era. Colleen loved to travel, enjoying excursions to Africa, Ireland, and New Mexico.
Colleen was preceded in death by her parents and brother Gerry. She is survived by her husband Jim, her daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Brennon Dupee, and grandchildren Elijah and Scarlett. Also surviving are her sisters, Sharon Fairchild, Margi Haas, Melissa Devalon, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, on Nov. 6, with visitation at 1 p.m., and the service at 2 p.m. A reception will follow. Attire is colorful, as Colleen didn't like black.
Inurnment will be Nov. 11 at noon at Fairmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to https://navajohopihealthfoundation.org/
