Graveside services for Mrs. Colleen Yelverton will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Calvary Cemetery in Silver Creek. The Reverend Mike Sutton will officiate. Mrs. Yelverton, age 71, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, beginning at 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm at Saulters Moore Funeral Home. The funeral procession will depart at 1:30 pm.
Mrs. Yelverton will be carried to her final rest by those honored to serve as pallbearers, they include Taylor McPhail, C.J. Portwood, Jared Portwood, Cody Yelverton, Robert Yelverton, and Pablo Lopez. Sterling Tanner, Ronnie Fortenberry, and Jayden Lopez will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Colleen was born on July 16, 1954, in Fairbanks, Alaska, to John Robert and Carolyn Zielinski Portwood. A resident of Silver Creek for the past 38 years, she worked at Fortenberry's Service Center in Silver Creek as a bookkeeper for 30 years. Colleen had served as an alderwoman for Silver Creek for over 10 years. She will be remembered as being selfless and non-judgmental, sacrificing her own comfort to help her friends and family. Her family remarks that she was a phenomenal cook, and her country-fried steak, mashed potatoes, and gravy, as well as her pecan pie, were second to none. Colleen also loved beautiful flowers and enjoyed working in her garden. She was of the Catholic faith.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John Robert and Carolyn Portwood; her husband, George C. Yelverton; and her sister, Darlene Walker.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her sons, Jared Portwood, Cody Yelverton, both of Silver Creek, Colton , Carlene, and Connor; brother, Robert L. Portwood of Prentiss; sister, Sandra Portwood of Des Allemands, LA; her grandchildren, Kaylyn, Allana, Shanna, C.J., Clayton, Nolan, Jaxon, and 5 great-grandchildren.
