Connie Gauthier was born in Denver, Colorado on January 12, 1948, the third child of Paul Albert Gauthier and Alice Louise Shallberg. She was the "apple of her Father's eye" with him saying, "we finally had a child that looks like a Frenchman". She was baptized and confirmed in Augustana Lutheran Church and later in life was baptized in the Baptist Church. She grew up attending schools in Englewood and Denver, graduating from South High School in 1966. After a short stay at college, her free spirit took her and a girl friend to California where she later met her first love, Ray Scarberry, and married in 1970. Shortly after their son Lonnie Ray was born, Ray was killed in an auto accident and Connie moved back to Colorado to be near her parents.
Now a mother, Connie's free spirit was cut short as she earned her LPN at Emily Griffith in 1972 while working full time. The career choice was perfect for Connie's compassionate and caring personality. Connie continued her education completing her RN at Arapahoe Community College in 1991 and her BSN from Araria Metropolitan State Collage in 1994. Along the way she married a second time and Stephen Charles was born. The marriage didn't last long and now she was supporting two boys while helping other members of the family. Connie was always there for the extended family sharing her love and support whenever needed.
Connie's career Included her early work in hospitals, nursing care homes including being Director of Nursing for ILIFF Care Center, and as a Case Manager for an insurance company. In retirement, her grand-daughter, Emily, became the most joyful part of her life.
Survived by children: Lonnie Ray Scarberry and wife Micki, and Stephen Charles Swain; sisters: Ann Gilmore, Karen (Dennis) Kennedy, Joyce Young, and brother Don Young; grandchild: Emily Rose Scarberry; nephews and nieces: Michael Kennedy, Kristin Newman, Paul Gilmore, and Juli Phelan.
Memorial Service on May 4, 2023, 2:00 PM at Heflebower Funeral Home in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
