Connie May Obituary
Connie was born and raised in Dexter, Missouri, to Conway & Margaret May on October 23, 1937. He joined the Air Force in 1956 and met his first wife, Virginia Wimberly, while stationed at Patrick AFB (now SFB) and married in 1957. He left the Air Force in 1959 and started working for Brevard County District 4 in Cocoa running draglines and cranes. They had their only child, Dwayne May in 1960. With the skills he acquired with Brevard County he moved on to become a heavy crane operator with contractors to build the VAB at Kennedy Space Center and develop Walt Disney World. His Disney projects he did lifts on, included the Monorail beam system, Swiss Family Robinson Tree House, Haunted Mansion, and the Contemporary Hotel. After becoming legally blind in 1984 from retinitis pigmentosa, he stayed busy doing handyman work, watching youth sports, and going to the Cocoa Moose Lodge.
He divorced his first wife in 1972, then met and married Annette Martin in 1974.
He and Annette spent the rest of their lives together and were happily married for 52 years.
Connie is preceded in death by wife Annette and siblings, Beverly, Lorretta, Eulen, Terry, and Kevin.
Connie is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Dwayne & Melissa May; granddaughter Alyssa (Ryan) May-Harris; stepdaughters Gidget (JD) Downum, Michelle (Jay) Taylor and Sherry (Eric) Olseen; stepson Gary (Liane) Odom; step-grandchildren Matt Best, Mariah (Isaac) Madrid, Brittany Parkerson, Candis (Stephen) Borg, Lily and Roan Odom, Sierra (Christian) Fernandez, Cyanne and Cerene Olseen; step-great-grandchildren Beckhem Madrid, Stetson Richter and Hannah Pridgeon.
The family of Connie wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Viera Health & Rehabilitation, plus VITAS Healthcare Inpatient Hospice Care in Rockledge.
