Connie Wicker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home & Crematory on Feb. 3, 2026.
Connie Frances Womack Wicker, 75, of Lillington, NC, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026. She was born in Harnett County on January 18, 1951 to the late Welton Worth Womack and Mary Elaine Gilchrist Womack. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Womack. Connie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is deeply mourned by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Connie married James Louis Wicker, Jr. on June 20, 1972 and they shared 53 wonderful years together. James referred to Connie as his angel. Together, they raised two children, Dr. Jamie Wicker and Travis Wicker (wife, Jenny). Connie was a proud grandmother to her grandchildren, Graham Abbuhl (wife, Camden), Jenson, Worth, and Janie Wicker. She was also a loving sister to Barbara Lloyd, Jimmy Womack (wife, Jeanette), and Sandra Alexander (husband, David) as well as a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Connie was a dedicated professional, retiring as a GS 12, the Executive Assistant to the Commanding General of the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) at Fort Bragg. She was a certified Administrative Professional through the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) and earned a 1-year Business Certificate from Louisburg College. Her commitment to excellence in her field earned the respect of those who worked with her.

As a lifelong member of Union Methodist Church in Lillington, Connie was deeply committed to her faith and her community. She served her church as Treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and was currently the President of Methodist Women. Connie held multiple leadership positions in several groups and was instrumental in helping to organize many class reunions (proud Anderson Creek High School Alumni). Connie sought to help others, whether through her church, in her community, or abroad. Her caring and generous spirit touched many lives, and she will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and willingness to lend a hand to those in need.

Connie loved spending time with her family and friends. She cherished playing cards with her sisters and lifelong friend, Gail Brown, and she was always ready for a competitive game of Scrabble. Her family will forever remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and devoted friend. Connie's legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

The family will receive friends at Union Methodist Church (2212 Nursery Road, Lillington, NC) on Sunday, February 8, 2026 from 2:00pm-2:45pm, with the funeral service to begin at 3:00pm. A graveside service will be held in the church cemetery immediately following the service.

Flowers are welcomed, or memorial contributions may be made in her memory to a worthy cause of your choosing such as Heifer International (https://fundraise.heifer.org/fundraiser/6967266).

Connie was a special and precious lady! It was a pleasure to work with her at USA Special Operations Command. Connie always had a smile and kind word to say to people. It was a matter of time before GOD would call her home to Heaven, she fought a tough battle, but GOD only takes the best! My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time.

Connie was an awesome person. I worked with her for many years during her tremendous support to the Special Operations community. May she rest in peace, and her family find comfort in their memories. Respectfully Dan Brand
