Constance “Connie” Jean Hammack (nee King), age 82, of West Bend, WI, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, entering her eternal rest.
Born on December 28, 1943, in Minneapolis, MN to William and Jean King (nee Syme). Connie was raised in Newburg and West Bend, WI. She attended West Bend High School and went on to earn her master’s degree in education from UW–Oshkosh.
On June 25, 1966, Connie married the love of her life, Michael J. Hammack. Together they spent two years in Korea while Mike served in the military. Connie devoted 37 years to her passion for education, teaching in Korea, Kansas, and at Barton Elementary School and throughout the West Bend School District. Her dedication touched countless students and families over the decades.
Her teaching didn’t stop in the classroom. From her own children to her grandchildren and the many people she opened her home to, she was an inspiration. Connie cherished time with her four grandchildren, whether it was taking them on many “field trips” or baking cookies. She also enjoyed many hours playing Cribbage, Scrabble, and Mahjong with family and friends. Her warmth, humor, and gentle spirit made every gathering brighter, from holidays to coffee-and-catalog mornings.
Connie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Michael; her sons, Matthew (Brenda) Hammack and Douglas (Stacy) Hammack; and her beloved grandchildren, Max Bullock, Blake Hammack, Landon Hammack, and Emily Hammack. She is further survived by her siblings, Thomas (Chris) King, Stephen (Linda) King, and Christine King.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William “Billy” King; sisters in law, Barbara King and Gwen Rutledge; and brother in law, Mark Hammack.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Myrhum Patten Funeral Home, 1315 Washington Street, West Bend, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. A service at the funeral home will follow at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment will be at Washington County Memorial Park.
