Constance Bernadette Elwin was born on February 10, 1946, at Princess Margaret Hospital in Goodwill, Dominica. She was raised by her mother, our dearest, Maria "Merh" John Baptiste, in Roseau, Dominica. Constance departed this life at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital in New York, New York on Friday, January 27, 2023, at 8:03 a.m.
Constance began her career as a seamstress at Sun Style Industries Garment Factory in Roseau, and continued her career working at Morrow's in Pottersville. Her incredible talent and success as a seamstress led her down a path of entrepreneurship when she began her very own garment and alterations business.
Constance later migrated to the United States to be reunited with three of her children, Peter, Julie, and Elizabeth. Upon her arrival in the United States, she returned to school after over forty years to earn her home health aide certification. She then served as a home health aide for ten years with Bestcare, Inc., until she later retired.
Constance is remembered by her seven siblings: Mavis, Sarah, Norma, Eleanor, Rosamond, Ceasarine, and Gregory; six children: Peter, Julie, Elizabeth, Agatha, Aldrick, and Roger; two children-in-law: Francis and Ermine; seven grandchildren: Delliz, Michael, Heidi, Jesse, Gillian, Raheem, and Rachel; four great-grandchildren: Laila, Sianna, Amirah, and Kiki; thirteen nieces and nephews: Richard, Stephenson, Melissa, Eyan, Pearson, Ann, Helene, Gilchris, Mario, Orlando, Orlana, Samantha, Aziza, and Devon; and her dear cousin Colbert. She is also mourned by numerous other loving relatives and friends.
Constance's ashes will later be spread in her beloved home, Dominica.
