Constance (Connie) Kaye (Von Gunten) Gilliom age 87, peacefully passed on March 14, 2026 at The Waters of Tipton. Connie was born on April 18, 1938 to Fred and Rosella (Heare) Von Gunten. Connie graduated from Berne French High School, Berne, Indiana in 1956. On June 29, 1957 Connie married the love of her life and best friend, Robert (Bob) Gilliom.
Connie and Bob adopted a daughter, Wendi, and later gave birth to a daughter Tammi. Connie was a stay-at-home mother, was involved in Girl Scouts, leading various troops and organizing the Girl Scouts for Adams Central Schools.
Connie and Bob lived in Berne, Indiana until 1985 when they moved to Paoli, Indiana. They were members of the First Mennonite Church of Berne, and later the Paoli Mennonite Fellowship. In Paoli Connie worked as a van driver for First Chance Industries and then later as a teacher's aide at Throop Elementary. In 2023 she moved to
Tipton, Indiana to be near her daughter, Tammi.
Connie's hobbies and interests were varied, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting, often teaching others these skills. She also enjoyed crafts, drawing, origami, and she was an avid reader. She loved bird watching, having even raised three owls in the 1970's when they were orphaned. She had many cats throughout her life and loved animals in general.
Her husband, Bob passed in May of 2015. Also preceding her in death were, her biological mother, Rosella (Heare) Von Gunten who died from complications in child birth, her father and mother Fred and Edna (Berkey) Von Gunten, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Lucille (Amstutz) Gilliom. Her brother-in-law John Eaton, sister-in-law Marilyn Gilliom, niece Anne (Gilliom) Andrus, and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
Connie is survived by her daughters, Wendi Bauman, Tammi (Rod) Hofstetter. Her grandchildren, Chad (Paula) Hofstetter, Jama (Richey) Hoover, Ashlie (Brian) Rotter, Josh (Ranshitha) Hofstetter, and a Granddaughter-by-choice, Patsy Heinz, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Sally Eaton, sister-in-law, Sandy (Ken) Reinhard, brother-in-law, David Gilliom, and many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Connie's wishes her earthly body will be cremated. The family will be having a private memorial.
Connie's family would like to thank all the staff and residents at Autumnwood, you made these last few years a wonderful experience for Connie, welcoming her to Tipton and giving her friendship, community and a wonderful place to call home. Additionally, we would like to thank the staff at The Waters and Guardian Angel Hospice for making her last days comfortable and dignified, and for doing all you did to make this time as easy as you could for the family as well.
