Derry It is with deep sadness and profound love that we are announcing the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Constance Joan Gingras on December 21, 2025. Joan was born in
Berlin, NH on February 8, 1934 and resided there until the family's move to
Derry, NH. Joan is predeceased by her husband Leo "Gus" Joseph Gingras.
Joan was the thread that kept family together. She was known and loved for always being the wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend who made the phone calls to everyone, "just to stay in touch". She was known for her Christmas card letters that expressed her love to all and just how much family and friends meant to her. Those who knew her loved her zest for life, her never-ending optimism, her ability to see the good in people, and her ability to find joy in the most mundane things. She never knew a stranger, and people instinctively gravitated to her. Her optimism was evident right up until her passing as she kept saying, "it will be better tomorrow."
Joan was the mother who was always willing to play games, read books, and watch horror shows with us. She loved going to the minor league hockey games at the Verizon Center in Manchester and got truly excited by the frequent scuffles that ensued on the ice. She loved travelling with family and spending time sitting at the beach people watching. We would be subject to her "cement finger" attacks or being doused with water from a Bazooka water gun when it was least expected. Joan was the mother that everyone wished that they had.
As a member of Church of the Transfiguration in Derry, she was a constant figure at the Wednesday morning church services and coffee gathering. Joan volunteered as treasurer for a period of time and was known for being present at the White Elephant and other gatherings to bring church members together to have fun and have the opportunity to make new friends. Her home baked bread was an immediate sale at the Christmas fair and she often had people call ahead to reserve a loaf. Joan was a loyal friend, a fierce mama bear and the best homemade spaghetti sauce and meatball maker that was shared by family and friends alike.
Joan is survived by her daughter Vickie Duguay and her husband Robert of Wilmington, NC, her son David Gingras and his wife Pisey of Derry NH, her son Robert Gingras and his wife Pamela of Ewa Beach HI, her daughter Shelly Laventure of Phoenix AZ and her son Alan Gingras and wife Serey of Derry NH.
