East Providence - Constance M. (Gonsalves) Shorts, affectionately known as Connie, graced the world with her presence on June 26, 1945, in
Providence, Rhode Island. Her journey on this earth came to a peaceful close on December 30, 2025, at Hope Hospice Providence RI, surrounded by the love of her family. Born to the late Martis L. and Isabella (Amado) Gonsalves, Connie was a beacon of love and selflessness, whose spirited nature touched the lives of all who knew her.
Connie was the cherished mother of Michael Shorts, Christopher Wallace, Laurie Shorts, Alisha Shorts, and Tiandra Shorts. She was a sister to the late Ralph "Snookie" Gonsalves and John "Nonny" Reis. Her legacy continues through her many nieces and nephews, 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren who will forever hold her in their hearts as an embodiment of unconditional love and joy.
For over a decade, Connie dedicated her time and talents as a food service worker to the Barrington School Department. Her commitment to her work was a testament to her character, always ensuring that those she served were met with a warm smile and a kind word. A proud East Providence "Townie" all her life, she held her community close to her heart and was an active participant in its growth and spirit.
A devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Loreto Church, Connie's faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her interests were many and varied; she found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Constance was an avid cook, known for her delicious meals that brought her family together. She enjoyed the camaraderie of playing Bingo and cards with friends, and the thrill of finding treasures while thrift shopping. Reading was a passion that allowed her to explore worlds beyond her own, while her enthusiasm for WII games showcased her youthful spirit. As a cheerleading coach, she inspired many young individuals, instilling in them confidence and team spirit.
Connie's life was a living example of the words loving, selfless, and spirited. She approached every day with a heart full of love, always putting others before herself. Her spirit was infectious, and she had the remarkable ability to light up any room she entered. Connie will be remembered as a woman who lived her life with purpose and joy, never missing an opportunity to make a positive impact on those around her.
As we bid farewell to Constance M. (Gonsalves) Shorts, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a legacy of love that will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those she touched. Her memory will be treasured and kept alive in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love she gave so freely.
