Constance (Connie) Goodwin Slattery, 90, of Martin, passed away Thursday June 13, 2024 in Martin, SD at the Bennet County Hospital. Connie was born September 2, 1933 in Watertown, SD, to parents Albert Clive Moorehouse and Florence McDonald-Moorhouse. Connie grew up in White River, SD until her high school years when the family moved to Martin. Connie graduated from Bennett County High School in 1952. After High School, Connie remained in Martin taking a job at the local Bennett County Coop. It was during this time that she met John Slattery of Martin. John and Connie were married in 1955 and resided in Martin for several years until they were able to build a home on the Slattery family farm and ranch in 1957. John and Connie raised 4 children Joe, Jeff, Paul & Jean. Besides raising four kids she spent many hours helping on the farm. She helped in the hay field, summer fallowing, working cattle, or wherever she was needed. Through the years Connie was involved in the Beta Sigma Pi sorority, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Legion Auxiliary and donated many hours of community service. In addition to the local Coop, Connie also worked for over 30 years in the office of the Martin Livestock sale barn. She loved gardening and growing flowers, but she was best known for being an amazing cook. She was especially proud of her 5 grandchildren. Two doctors, two nurses, and a construction manager. Connie will be deeply missed by her family.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Florence Moorhouse, brother Alfred Moorhouse and sister Helen Crosswait.
Connie is survived by her husband of 69 years John, her sons Joe (Lorna) Slattery, Jeff Slattery, Paul Slattery and daughter Jean (Brian) Kirk. Grandchildren, Casey Slattery, Brianna Slattery, John Paul Slattery (Kaytlyn), Melissa Slattery (Lonnie Lesmeister), Megan Slattery and great grandchildren Kase, Krew, Kaden, Reagan and Easton.
Funeral services will be held Saturday June 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at the new American Legion.
