Constance Vouras Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. on Dec. 12, 2025.
Constance "Dena" Vouras, wife of the late Dr. Peter Vouras, Jr., passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, after a brief illness. Born in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Sylvia Panagos. She resided in Middletown.
Dena was a devoted member of many charitable groups and organizations, including the Charity Club, the Meriden Girls' Club, and the American Red Cross.
A devout Greek Orthodox Christian, she was a longtime member of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in New Britain, where she sang in the church choir. She was also a lifelong member of the Daughters of Penelope and the Philoptochos Society.
A talented musician, Dena began playing the mandolin at a very young age and continued her love of music throughout her life. Some of her fondest memories were performing on stage with Judge Tom Griglun in the Kiwanis Kapers show. This experience led to the formation of a small band, The Internationals, named for their repertoire of traditional Greek, Russian, and Baltic music. The band was made up of dear friends and fellow musicians: Judge Tom Griglun, Gill and Ginger Alwang, and Peter Salamone. Together, they generously performed pro bono at assisted living and nursing homes, prisons, library events, and the annual Christmas concert at the Cabin Restaurant.
Dena spent her entire childhood and adult life summering in Old Lyme, surrounded by her beloved extended family.
She is survived by her son, Peter N. Vouras (Salem) of Woodbridge; her daughter, Dr. Lisa Vouras of Brookline, Massachusetts; and her cherished grandchildren, Tai and Aro Vouras. She is also survived by her sister, Elaine Peters.
She also leaves behind her Goddaughter and niece Cheryl Peters (Mark); nieces, Nicole (Franklin) Franklin, and Tina Dimitrion (Mike); nephews Nicholas Zannetos, Dr. Thomas Peters (Vicky), Greg Medes (Cindy), and Joe Tella (Britt); and grandnieces Olivia Schlepphort, Katie Schlepphorst and Zoe Franklin and several other grandnieces and nephew.
Dena was predeceased by her sister, Kay Zannetos; her brothers-in-law, Nick Zannetos and George Peters and her niece, Constance Zannetos.
