Constantine Kavalos Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Farewell Funeral Service - Palm Bluffs on Dec. 13, 2024.
Constantine "Gus" Kavalos passed away peacefully in Fresno, California on December 7, 2024 at the age of 83. Born in Plataies, Greece, Gus grew up in a rural farming family, and later served in the Greek Army. Gus and his brother worked together in a bulldozing company which he always said taught him a lot about life at a young age.
Gus loved his homeland of Greece and it was never far from his mind. But from a young age Gus had dreams of the United States and the American Dream. He immigrated to the United States in July, 1967 to visit his uncle, and later, Gus assisted him with his farming operations. Gus's uncle encouraged him to go to school, so he enrolled in an adult school for English, then attended Fresno City College and eventually, Gus graduated from Fresno State earning a degree in Agriculture Business.
After graduating, Gus managed his uncle's ranch in Coalinga, California. He worked tirelessly, and he devoted many years to the farming operation, growing cantaloupes, onions, garlic, broccoli, cotton, and later operating his own ranch. Gus then added almonds and pistachios and continued to take an active role running the business into his final years.
Gus was an active member of the Greek community in Fresno, eager to lend a hand with the Easter picnic preparations, and generously donating produce to the annual Greek Festival. But most of all, Gus will be remembered as a devoted husband and father. His family is thankful for the legacy he built.
Gus was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Demetra. He is survived by his daughter, Sophia and many nieces and nephews, who reside in Greece.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the: St. George Memorial Fund, 2219 N. Orchard, Fresno, CA 93703
