Corazon LaRosa Abes

Corazon LaRosa Abes of West Caldwell, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, at the age of 81.
Born on January 3, 1944, in Batangas, Philippines, she was the daughter of Gregoria (Luna) and Mayor Crispulo LaRosa of Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro. Corazon earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Centro Escolar University in Manila, Philippines. She came to the United States in 1966 and later trained in Baltimore, MD to become a medical technologist.
Corazon dedicated more than 40 years to her career as a medical technologist at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey, and also worked with the Summit Medical Group in Berkeley Heights. She lived in Summit and Mountainside before moving to West Caldwell five years ago.
Corazon was known for her zest for life and adventurous spirit. She loved to travel-especially cruising with her husband to destinations around the world-and enjoyed the occasional trip to Atlantic City to try her luck. Above all, she treasured the time spent with her beloved grandchildren.
A devout Catholic, Corazon's faith guided her life. She will be remembered for her unwavering loyalty, deep kindness, and the love she shared so freely with family and friends.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Jovito P. Abes; her loving daughters, JoAnna Ahn and her husband, Grant, and Jennifer Guiliano and her husband, Brendan; and her cherished grandchildren, Amanda, Austin, Brendan, Patrick, and Ava. She is also survived by her siblings, Ernesto LaRosa and Aurora LaRosa, and was predeceased by her brothers Crispulo LaRosa Jr., Emmanuel LaRosa, and Carlos LaRosa. She was deeply loved by her many nieces and nephews, who will always remember her warmth, generosity, and joyful spirit.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Notre Dame Church, 359 Central Avenue, North Caldwell, NJ. Following the Mass, inurnment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, New Jersey. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, Roseland, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Corazon's name to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation (www.bafound.org) or to Notre Dame Church, 359 Central Avenue, North Caldwell, NJ, in support of parish ministries that were close to her heart.
