Robert Cordell Richmond, 72, of
Indianapolis, Indiana, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 13, 2025. He was born on September 13, 1953, in
Scottsville, Kentucky, to the late Robert Franklin Richmond and Mary Rose (Bray) Richmond.
Cordell dedicated many years of service as a field inspector for Citizens Energy Group, retiring in 2024. Known for his work ethic and dependability, he took pride in his profession and the relationships he built along the way.
Cordell accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 2, 2000-a moment that forever changed his life. He was a devoted member of Southeast Baptist Tabernacle, where he worshiped faithfully and found joy in fellowship.
Cordell was a true outdoorsman, happiest with a fishing rod in hand. He often said he would "rather fish than eat," and meant every word. He also enjoyed hunting, watching NASCAR-especially his favorite driver, Mark Martin-and spending cherished time with his grandchildren. One of the greatest blessings in his later years was meeting his great-grandchild before his passing. He was known for his infectious humor and beloved for his endless supply of witty sayings and jokes.
Cordell is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Stella R. (Long) Richmond; daughter, Heather (Billy) Phillips; sons, Matthew Thomas and Mark (Amber) Thomas; eight grandchildren, Brandon (Reese) Carter, Sarah (Tyler) Harris, Dalton Phillips, Elijah (Alisha) Thomas-Eddy, Benjamin Tichenor, Matthew M. Thomas, Piper Thomas, Avery Thomas, two great grandsons, Easton Carter and Ezra Thomas-Eddy; his siblings, Rose Ann Price, Mary "Libby" (Don) Ventress, Jerry Lee (Barb) Richmond, and Michael Loren Richmond; and a host of extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Emily Richmond and Jessica Thomas-Eddy, along with his parents, Robert and Mary Richmond.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Southeast Baptist Tabernacle, 6835 Shelbyville Road,
Indianapolis, IN 46237. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor his memory, share stories, and celebrate a life well lived from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Cordell will be laid to rest at Orchard Hill Cemetery.
