PLATTSBURGH – Corey W. Lucas, 52, of Saratoga Springs, peacefully passed at his parents home in Plattsburgh on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024, surrounded by his loving parents and his Aunt Betsy.
He was born the only child of Gary and Bonnie (Johnson) Lucas on May 10, 1972.
Corey graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1991. He then attended SUNY Delhi for two years where he was secretary of his fraternity. Corey eventually settled in Saratoga Springs where he has lived for the past 25 years.
He attended classes at SUNY Albany while working for the Saratogian Newspaper in the sports department. During the summertime for three years, he worked for New York Racing Association at the Saratoga Racetrack Meets as a Mutual Attendant.
Corey then found his forever home with CMA Consulting Services Inc. in Latham, NY where he has worked for the past 22 years as a Sr. Technical Recruiter. CMA was like his second family.
Corey was a lifelong sports enthusiast as well as a lover of all animals. His love of sports began in his younger years playing in Little League, Babe Ruth, and Youth Hockey thru High School Hockey for PHS. He especially loved the Yankees, attending numerous games at Yankee Stadium with friends and relatives. Corey also had a great love of the Montreal Canadiens "The Habs", even receiving a very special Habs fight jersey the day before he passed from his longtime friend and colleague, Parker Stafford. This kind gesture brought the first smile to Corey's face in a long time.
His true passion was the love of horse racing where he attended tracks throughout the country, his best time being at the Kentucky Derby. You would find him at Gulf Stream in Florida every winter with his group of "horse racing friends". Corey would spend an inordinate amount of time doing research on the races. He could put any handicapper to shame, and his friends all looked to him for the best bets, which were often winners. He and his mom loved to do the "Pick 5" together.
Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Gary and Bonnie Lucas and his canine companion, Finn, who he rescued two years ago, at eight months old, from a Golden Retriever Sanctuary in PA.
Corey also leaves behind his aunts and uncles, Tom and Susan Aceto, Tom and Betsy Herlihy, Scott and Carol Johnson, and Leslie and Barb Lucas; cousins, Jeff Aceto, Jonathan Aceto, Casey Herlihy, Kari Herlihy Taylor, Katie Herlihy Daley, Matt Johnson, Gregory Johnson and Adam Lucas; special second cousins Austin Lucas, Braiden Taylor, Donovan Taylor, and Landon Daley; and numerous caring friends and colleagues.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Bill and Catherine Lucas, Edgar "Eddie" and Louise Johnson, as well as his uncle James Johnson.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 1st from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A private funeral service will take place as well as burial in Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Corey's memory may be made to the Elmore SPCA or
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
