Cornel Traian Lazea

Cornel Traian Lazea, age 70, of Lynn, Massachusetts, passed away on December 23rd after a courageous battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome.
Born in Bucharest, Romania, Cornel was a truly eccentric and unique individual. Brilliant, opinionated, curious, and unmistakably himself, he lived life with intensity and deep thought. In 1986, with the help of his wife, he immigrated to Massachusetts and began a new chapter in the United States.
Cornel earned a Masters degree in Physics in Romania and later received a second Master's degree in Computer Science from UMass Boston. A lifelong learner with a sharp analytical mind, he built a successful career in computer science, working for companies including Champion, Hewlett-Packard, and Blue Cross. He was especially proud of the computer databases he built for well-known U.S.-based organizations, work that reflected his intelligence and persistence.
Outside of work, Cornel embraced life fully. He loved a good party, to play music, and spending hours in deep conversation. Philosophy was not just an interest but a way of being for him, and he could turn any conversation into a thoughtful exploration of life and human nature. He also had a rare and memorable gift for giving nicknames, always clever, always precise, and often unforgettable.
Cornel cherished time with his daughter, Jennifer. He loved taking her to local restaurants, spending time outdoors in the sunshine, and sharing his passions with her. He was an avid sports fan, especially devoted to soccer, which he both played and followed closely. He also loved skiing and proudly taught Jennifer to ski, creating memories that will be held close forever.
Cornel is survived by his wife, Emilia Lazea; his daughter, Jennifer Lazea; and his brothers, George and Viorel Lazea.
A funeral service for will be held on January 6th at Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway, Lynn, Massachusetts at 11:30AM. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn.
