Mrs. Cornelia Owings, 86, of 435 Gist Bridge Road, Buffalo passed way Tuesday February 17, 2026 at her home.
Mrs. Owings was born February 24, 1939 in Union, SC, a daughter of the late Wilkes Edward Hyder and Lillian Greene Hyder. She was the last surviving of 13 children. Mrs. Owings was a graduate of Union High School and finished Cecil’s Business College. After completing Cecil’s, she went to work for Carlisle Finishing, then Conso and finished her work career with nearly 30 years of service at the SC Employment Security Commission. Mrs. Owings loved music and started playing the piano at Hebron Baptist Church at the age of 14. When she started, she had had no music lessons, and it was all by ear but her love for music led her to take formal training later. Mrs. Owings was a member of Hebron Baptist Church. She loved to work in the yard and look after her flowers and roses.
Mrs. Owings is survived by three sons, Robin Owings and his wife, Donna, Ralph Edward Owings and Phillip Owings all of Union. She also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer Susan Snyder, Karen Gregory (Neil), Robert Owings (Katie), great grandchildren, Cayce Snyder, Emma Snyder, Hayden Snyder, Kaley Gregory, Gracie Owings, Paisley Owings, Hunter Owings and Levi Owings. Mrs. Owings also leaves behind nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, February 20, 2026 conducted by Rev. Lynn Ford at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the cemetery from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service.
