Mr. Cornelius Anthony Davis Sr., fondly known as Neal Davis, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, at the age of 88, in Michigan City, Indiana. Born on October 13, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Willie Davis and Bernice S. (Fargo) Davis. Neal was a man of distinction and character, whose legacy is marked by his wisdom, charm, and the profound influence he had on his family and community.
Neal married his sweetheart Esther L. Jones on November 12, 1954, in Michigan City, Indiana. They shared a remarkable journey of 70 years filled with love and laughter. He is survived by his devoted wife. Together, they built a life full of love and memories that will be cherished by their children, Felice Simmons of Fort Worth, Texas, Tony (Stephanie) Davis of La Vergne, Tennessee, Cornell Davis, Derrick (Roslyn) Wesley, and Michael Davis, all of Michigan City, Indiana, and Tina (Mark) Rice of Indianapolis, Indiana. Neal also leaves behind his two brothers, Russell (Carla) Stanley of California and Vernon Simmons of Minnesota and his twenty-one grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will miss his guidance and unwavering support. Neal's life was further enriched by his special daughter Carlen Ashley of Portland, Oregon and special sons James "Tuffy" Kent of Michigan City, Indiana and Russell Guyton of Wisconsin; his special goddaughter, Taylor Bush of Phoenix, Arizona, and by his three special cousins, Patricia Fargo of Indianapolis, Indiana, Linda Butler of LaPorte, Indiana, and Viola Davis of Michigan City, Indiana and his close friend, Willie "John" Peterson, of Michigan City, Indiana along with numerous other relatives and friends.
Neal was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Bernice Davis, his two sons, Cornelius Anthony Davis Jr. and Darrell Wayne Davis Sr.; two grandsons, Brandon Davis and Eric Wesley; one great granddaughter, Pryncess Khalilah Gross; and his brother/cousin Alton Fargo.
Neal's early education took place in the Michigan City Catholic School System. As a teenager he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marines. After his military service, Neal embarked on a career at Weil McClain, where he worked diligently until his retirement in 2006. His commitment to his work was matched by his devotion to his faith as a former member of Queen of all Saints Catholic Church.
Neal's interests were as unique as the man himself. He loved spending time on his deck, where he would relax and listen to music, a simple pleasure that brought him immense joy. Neal took great pride in his appearance and was always impeccably dressed, showcasing a personal swag that was truly untouchable. His love for cruising the streets of Michigan City in his many cars was well-known, as he believed in enjoying the finer things in life.
Above all, Neal cherished the special bond he shared with his children and grandchildren. He was a source of wisdom and a guiding light in their lives, instilling values and sharing stories that will be passed down for generations. His presence was a comforting and constant force, and his influence will continue to be felt long after his passing.
Neal Davis was a man of great wisdom, whose life was characterized by his strong will, gentle heart, and the love he had for his family and friends. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the remarkable life he led and the indelible mark he has left on all who were fortunate enough to know him. Neal's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the importance of family, and it will live on through the lives of those he touched. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever be a beacon of light for his loved ones.
