Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home Inc. on Jun. 27, 2024.
Corrine M. Salay, age 104 of Wadsworth, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024. She was born to Edward and Lucille (Chenevey) Merillat on the family farm in Holmes County near the town of Mount Hope on November 18, 1919.
Her family was part of a French farming community known as Calmoutier. She attended a one room schoolhouse and worked on the farm in her early years. She later lived and worked in the Wooster area until she married Frank Salay in 1950. They made Wadsworth their home and Corrine spent the rest of her life there. She worked at Polsky's at Summit Mall from the opening until it closed and also O'neil's Department store. She was a talented seamstress and loved flowers, especially her rose garden. Corrine enjoyed crocheting, baking and cooking for many family holiday meals. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church since 1950 and a former member of the Alter and Rosary Society. She was an avid Cleveland Cavaliers and Guardians fan. She was the #1 fan for her five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The family of Corrine would like to give a special thanks to Sherry, her friend and care-giver, as well as the staff at Hospice of the Western Reserve.
Corrine is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Salay; her brother, Dennis Merillat; her sisters, Vivian Amato and Marcella King; and her parents. She is survived by her children, Mike (Shelly) Salay and Cindy (Marty) Coudriet; her grandchildren, Erica (Brandon) Joffre, Karla (Jeremy) Bohmer, Erin (Mike) Falk, Holly (TJ) Hollingsworth, and Elise Coudriet; her great-grandchildren, Addison, Olivia, Jacoby, and Claire Joffre, Alaina and Leanne Bohmer, Kaden and Mason Falk, Brielle and Stella Corrine Hollingsworth.
