Cory Austin Johnson

Cory Austin Johnson, born on July 21, 1994, in Canton, Georgia, passed away on January 16, 2026, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, at the age of 31.

Cory was a dedicated and hardworking individual who spent his career as a shipping & receiving warehouse worker. His commitment to his work was matched by his passion for a variety of interests that brought joy to his life and those around him. An avid gamer, Cory enjoyed the strategic challenges of card games such as Magic: The Gathering and the wordplay of Scrabble. He was also an enthusiastic reader, particularly drawn to the fantasy genre, with cherished favorites including the Harry Potter series and the Star Wars universe. Cory had a special fondness for tigers, which reflected his appreciation for both the majestic and the mysterious.

Cory is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Marvin "Pops" Foshea, Dale Wingard, and David "Papa Bear" Wingard. He leaves behind a loving family, including his mother Annette Sears, his father Steve Speer of Jasper, Georgia, his sister Page Moore and brother-in-law Jerry Moore, his sister Rosie Wingard of Lexington, South Carolina, his nannie, Anne Foshea, his nephew, Aiden Sears, his niece, Aspen Sears, and his beloved dog, Opal, was a constant companion and source of joy in his life.

Cory will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the joy he brought to those around him. His family and friends will hold his memory close, celebrating the impact he made during his time with them.
