Cory E. Simerl of Corpus Cristi, Texas passed away on October 6, 2025, at Corpus Cristi Medical Center. He was born June 27, 1985, in Kirksville, Missouri, to Danny and Kim Simerl of Memphis, Missouri. Cory was their only child. 

After graduating from high school, Cory left Memphis and began a career as a welder, working on the road for several years. His work allowed him to travel and live in several areas before eventually settling down in Texas. 

On March 31, 2012 Cory was united in marriage to Shelly Mattew and her daughter, Alexis Sayre. To this union two children were born: Keira Jolie and Traeven Eugene.

Cory loved hunting, fishing, and gambling and eager to try new things. He enjoyed a good adventure, but above all he cherished spending time with his children and giving them experiences they would remember for a lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his father, Danny Simerl, paternal great grandparents, Junior and Marja Simerl, paternal grandfather, Jackie Simerl, maternal grandparents, Albert and Joyce Bowens of Arizona; his uncle, Albert Bowens Jr. of Arizona; his aunt Kathy Lanphier of Kirksville, Missouri and cousin Royce Bowens of Downing, Missouri.

Survivors include his children: Alexis Sayre of Texas, Kiera and Traevin Simerl of Rutledge Missouri; his mother: Kimberly Simerl of Rutledge, Steve Simpson of Rutledge; Jamaisa (Jeremy) Lance of St Joseph, Missouri; Cody Simpson of Arbela, Missouri and Andrew Forest of Davenport, Iowa. He is also survived by his cousin Amanda Shinn, who was like the sister he never had; his maternal grandmother: Levonne Simerl of Memphis, Missouri; his aunt:, Terri (Mitch) Tague of Memphis, Missouri; uncles, Steve and (Lori) Simerl of Jefferson City, Missouri and David (Rose) Bowens, of Kirksville Missouri, David Shinn of North Carolina;along with several cousins and many lifelong friends he met along his many adventures.
