Coy Lee Latimer

Coy Lee Latimer, age 86, of Burleson, TX passed away on October 9, 2025. Born  April 6, 1939, in Fort Worth, TX to Rev. Coy Leon and Lota Lee "Bobbie" Latimer.

Coy was the youngest of 3 children, raised on the front row of church, as his father was the preacher, and his mother was a Sunday School teacher and singer. He was heavily influenced by the beautiful Christian upbringing and passed the importance of God in one's life on to his own family and others. Everyone knew his strong beliefs in God. Later in life as an adult, Coy sang bass in 2 different southern gospel quartets.

Coy lived his childhood in what was considered "the good old days". He attended, "when he wanted" Northside High School. As he came into adolescent years, Coy was more interested in rodeos and cars. Two things were for sure; he always had the finest of western clothes, always wearing a cowboy hat and tailored clothes, and always drove new fancy cars. Maybe it was both that caught Joy's attention... or maybe it was his sweet, funny charm. He would go hang out at the Ice Box drive-in where Joy was working as a car hop and would take her home late at night, always making sure he was back in his own door before midnight!

Coy fell deeply in love with the love of his life, Joy, and they married at the innocent young ages of 16 and 18 and have admirably celebrated 67 years of marriage. They have been each other's companion and life partner through thick and thin. Coy being a master carpenter throughout his life built about ½ of Burleson back in the early 60's. So much construction was happening there that he and Joy decided to make Burleson their home in 1964. Over the years Coy had built Joy 4 different custom homes which were all built with such love and quality.

Coy's talents were in no way limited to construction alone. He, along with Joy, started several very successful businesses, such as trophy shops, jewelry stores, put on motorcycle races and a sporting goods store. His magnetic personality and sharp abilities drew people in from everywhere. He was loved and enjoyed by so many people, and he never met a stranger. In his spare time, Coy loved to fish. He would go fishing every opportunity he had. He didn't care so much about golf, but he would go out with Joy and play a round occasionally. To everyone's surprise, Coy did get a "Hole in One". We think that is when he hung up his clubs and kept fishing.

One of the most memorable things about Coy was his trademark "Syrup and peanut butter". This famous signature dish has now gone through 5 generations. He began enjoying this delicious treat as a very young lad. Per his stories, it is to be enjoyed late at night with about 6 pieces of toast, some sort of meat such as sausage or even bologna and a large glass of ice-cold milk.

Coy's dedication to Joy and his family will be greatly missed. He will be remembered for his hard work, his humor, his ability to do anything and his grit and determination in life. He was a gentleman in every way.

Coy is survived by Joy, his loving wife of 67 years; 3 daughters, Connie and husband Don, Kelly and husband Larry, and Shana and husband Ross; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Pete Latimer and wife Shelly. Numerous nieces and nephews and friends also survive and will dearly cherish the memories of Coy.

Services will be held at Lucas Funeral home, Burleson on Monday October 20, 2025, at 10:00 o’clock with interment to follow at Burleson Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
