Cpl. Ernest J Hyde, Jr. (USMC), of West Palm Beach, FL, previously of Danbury, CT (50 years) and Newburgh, NY. Ernie was born in Norwich, CT, March 24,1949, he passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024. He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest Hyde, Sr. and Dorothy Hyde Lafferty, along with his brothers, Walter and Bobby, and his beloved sister-in-law, Robin. Ernie is survived by his brothers, Michael of Port St. Lucie, FL, Glenn (Debbie), Wayne, and Rocky (Debbie) all of Danbury, CT; his baby sister, Gail (David) Smith of Beach Lake, PA; multiple nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews he absolutely adored and spoiled whenever he had the chance. He never wanted to pick a favorite, but we all know Ryan was his wingman.
Ernie served in the USMC, being deployed to Vietnam 1969-1970.
As a Union painter for many years, Ernie was known for his skill and discretion-he never boasted about painting Peter Framptons house or playing cards with Dick Van Patten (but we all heard the stories!).
Sundays were his Race days and good luck to anyone that tried to call him, unless of course, you were Ryan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and always knew where to find a Golden Corral and all the specials that were available. Ernie enjoyed his cigars, a good card game, and nights at the casinos with his brothers. Let's also not forget that he had the best stories to make us all laugh.
Ernie will be reunited with his brother from another mother, Sherman Joyce, and heaven will never be the same. He will also be deeply missed by his oldest and bestest buddy, Eddie Barrett of Danbury, CT.
In keeping with Ernie's wishes, funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors or a charity of one's choice.
