Craig Funk Obituary

Craig Williams Funk passed away at home in Ferron, Utah on October 5, 2025. He was loved and will be missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by his four children, Diane Elaine Bell (Robert), Kim Funk (Stephanie), Daniel Funk, and Gina Farnsworth (Wade). He has twelve grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Myrlena Idell Yates.

Craig was born July 29, 1940, to Jack Jesse Funk and Jeanne Williams. He was the oldest of five sons. His mother passed away when he was only three years old. He and his younger brother, Brent, were cared for by his grandmother until Jack met and married Louise. A wonderful woman who welcomed them into her heart as one of her own. Three younger brothers, Phil Jay, Don, and John were born making their family complete.

In high school he enjoyed baseball, track and tennis. After high school, he went to barber school which was his profession for several years. After a time, he decided on a career change and “Chose a job that he loved and never had to work a day in his life.” He spent the better part of his career in service to the public as a Park Ranger for Utah State Parks and Recreation.

Craig loved the country and was proud to be called a cowboy. His favorite attire was his hat and boots. The great outdoors was where he was the happiest. Hunting, fishing, and exploring the desert were his favorite pastimes. He loved having a garden where he enjoyed the fresh vegetables. When he was in good health, he took great pride in fixing up his yard. He built a fountain and made a rock garden out of rocks from the desert. People passing by his home would stop to look and admire his work.

When he wasn’t outside, he enjoyed the indoors by creating beauty with his hands. Most of his creations were inspired by the outdoors and the native American culture. Although oils were his medium to paint, canvas wasn’t always his only surface to express his talent. Many of his paintings were on rocks creating unusual, life like images. Making turquoise jewelry was also a talent he enjoyed. The most unusual artforms he developed in his later years was making knives, using antlers as the handle.

After Myrlena’s passing, his son, Daniel, moved in with him to be a companion and caregiver. They enjoyed making memories together for the last eight years of his life. As a family, we are grateful for Daniel’s loving care and service in the twilight of dad’s life.

Craig will be remembered for his positive attitude. For his gentle and kind nature. And most especially for his ability to be a friend to everyone.
