Craig Gerdes Obituary

Craig Stephen Gerdes
Born: April 18, 1951 in St. Louis, MO
Died: September 17, 2025 in McHenry, IL
Craig Stephen Gerdes passed away peacefully after a long battle with sepsis. He lived a life filled with love and dedication, most notably to his family.
Craig was married to Cecilia M. Gerdes for 52 wonderful years. Together, they raised three children, Keith (Erin Riney) Gerdes, Shane (Darien Monk) Gerdes, and Brooke (Brandon) Harvey.
Craig was many things: a devoted husband and father, a loving brother, a human-map who knew every nook and cranny in Chicagoland, an avid reader, a life-long Cardinals fan, and a good friend to many. Most notably, Craig found immense joy in being a grandfather to Teagan Harvey, Greyson Harvey, Evie Gerdes, and Rae Gerdes.
He is also survived by his siblings: Kent Gerdes, Dennis (Edie) Gerdes, David (Sherry) Gerdes, and Michael (Sveta) Gerdes. Craig was not only preceded in death by his brothers Louis Gerdes, Jeffery Gerdes, and Roger Gerdes, but also by his son Shane Gerdes, who passed away in 2021.
Craig passed away on his son Shane's birthday, and it offers great solace to know that Shane was there to greet Craig upon his passing.
Craig's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He did not wish to have a formal funeral service, so instead we will honor him with a celebration of life in the coming weeks.
