Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch
Craig Alan (Harry) Harriss, age 65, entered the gates of heaven at his home in Southaven, Mississippi, after a lengthy battle with Early Onset Alzheimer's Dementia.
Harry was born in Memphis, TN on December 10, 1959, to Bobby E. and the late Donna Mae Harriss. He was a graduate of Oakhaven Baptist Academy, Mid-South Bible College (which later became Crichton College), Mid America Seminary, and Grace Seminary, completing two master's degrees and a degree in Christian School Administration.
After completing his education, Harry became the Oakhaven Baptist Academy Administrator for 13 years before spending ten years as Professor of Biblical Studies, Greek, and Hebrew at Crichton College until they closed in 2014. Harry worked with Wycliffe Bible Translators in India and the US and was a Professor of Biblical Studies at Liberty University for many years. During his career, Harry was invited to participate in a roundtable debate on evolution with well-known atheist, Richard Dawkins, at Oxford University in Oxford, England.
Harry spent his life and career living out his faith and working to bring those he met and taught to a saving faith in Jesus Christ. Harry fiercely loved his God, family, friends, water skiing, and his Tennessee Vols. Prior to his illness, he was an active member of Longview Heights Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Harriss, and stepmother, Carolyn (Green) Harriss.
He is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 31 years, Susan; his father, Bobby Harriss; his stepchildren, Matt Hammond and wife, Patricia; Natalie Meyers and husband, Jason; and Adam Hammond and wife, Julie; seven grandchildren: Madison Hammond, Levi Hammond, Austin Meyers, Bradley Meyers, Mallory Meyers, Blakely Hammond, and Hayes Hammond; and his brother, Bob Harriss and wife, Sherrye, and nieces, Melynda and Courtney.
He also loved and was loved dearly by Susan's brother, Keith Belote, his wife, Cindy, and their daughter, Whitney; Susan's sister, Amie Dunn and her husband, David, and David's children, Taylor Dunn and Drew Dunn and his wife, Olivia, and their son, Duke.
In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to Longview Heights Baptist Church at 4501 Goodman Rd in Olive Branch, MS, the Alzheimer's Association, or Gentiva Hospice in Southaven, MS. The family sends a heartfelt thank you to those who reached out with never-ending love, care, calls, texts, and encouragement through Harry's extended illness... especially the dedicated and skilled professionals at Gentiva Hospice.
A celebration of Harry's life will be held at Longview Heights in Olive Branch on Saturday, June 7. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by a brief service at 3:00 p.m. The graveside will be held at Autumn Woods Memorial Park in Olive Branch, MS.
Pallbearers include Keith Belote, David Dunn, Matt Hammond, Adam Hammond, Bob Harriss, and Jason Meyers.
