Craig Joseph Liska, born on July 11, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 24, 2025, in Durham, North Carolina, at the age of 68. Craig was a loving son of the late Joseph and Florence Liska.
Craig was naturally serene, a person who knew no resentment or distrust. He showed his love with just his eyes, was always attentive to everyone around him, always smiling. He knew how to love and, as a result, was much loved.
An eternal admirer of nature, history and different cultures, he traveled around the world, lived in different cities, had incredible adventures and lived his dreams to the fullest. He found great joy in playing his piano and admired all forms of music and art. His adventurous spirit and love for life's simple pleasures were evident to all who knew him.
Craig dedicated his career to safety and environmental corporate compliance, starting at Illinois EPA and USA EPA, serving as Corporate Director of EHS at Motorola, where he traveled to Brazil and met his soulmate Freny, and retired as Vice-President of Sustainability at Verso Paper, leaving a legacy of diligence and care.
Craig was the cherished husband of Cléan Freny Noernberg-Liska; supportive father of Lauren Liska; devoted brother of Lynn (the late John) Whalen, James (Natalie) Liska and the late Janine Liska. He was a loving son and brother to his Brazilian Noernberg family Álvaro (late Cléa), Cléci, Clemm and Cléo. He was an adoring uncle and an exceptional friend. He was fond of Ginga, his faithful canine companion, whose happy energy made him smile every morning.
Craig's life was a testament of his dedication, love, and kindness to his family and friends. His resilience when faced with adversities was awe-inspiring. He will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. The happiness of having been part of his life surpasses the "see you soon" of his departure. His truly pure soul will remain in our hearts, guiding our spirits along the paths we have until we meet again.
The family will honor Craig's life privately. In lieu of customary remembrances, please consider making a memorial contribution to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate), to a medical research foundation or to a charity of your choosing.
