Craig A. Norbom, 47, of Washington, IL, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
He was born on August 3, 1977, in Peoria, IL, the son of Gary and Debra Vanlandingham Norbom.
Surviving are his mother Debra Vanlandingham of Washington; his father, Gary (Mindy) Norbom of Dunlap, IL; one sister, Carrie (Mark) Geason of Groveland, IL; his maternal grandmother, Cherrill Vanlandingham of Eureka; two step-brothers, Chris (Elizabeth) Leman of Washington and Chad (Emily) Leman of Roanoke, IL. One nephew and one niece, Luke and Bailee Geason, along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.
Craig worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 21 years, last working in Global Shipping in Morton before retiring in 2022.
Craig's career at Caterpillar spanned many years, culminating in his role in Global Shipping, from which he retired in 2022. His commitment to excellence and his collaborative spirit made him not only a valued employee but also a true friend to his colleagues.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Craig was a man of diverse interests and passions. He was known for his love of music, particularly the Grateful Dead, and could often be found reveling in the energy of their concerts. His collection of Grateful Dead T-shirts was more than a hobby; it was a colorful tapestry of memories and experiences he cherished deeply.
Craig's love for the outdoors was evident in his favorite pastimes. He found solace and joy in fishing, an activity that allowed him to connect with nature and enjoy quiet moments of reflection. His adventurous spirit shone through during his rafting trips on the Current River, where he shared laughter and stories with friends.
A loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears, and NASCAR. Craig's enthusiasm for his teams was infectious. He celebrated their victories with gusto and remained hopeful through their defeats, embodying the true spirit of a dedicated fan.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 5 pm until 7 pm at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. A service will follow at 7 pm. Burial will be at a later date at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Cats of West Central Illinois. Craig and I were co-workers at Caterpillar Morton for 15, or so, years. When I left Cat in October of 2021, we tried to stay in touch. Although we hadn't been in touch in the last year, I thought of him from time to time, and wondered how he was doing. I was in total shock, and very much saddened, when I read his obituary online. We used to have great conversations and we laughed, A LOT. I will miss you, my friend.

To Gary and all of the family and friends of Craig words can never express the sadness your extended family here in Naples feel in your loss. May your son find solace in the arms of his savior and be forever blessed in the
memories of all who knew him.
