Craig Thompson, age 74 of Marshalltown, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, at UnityPoint Hospital Health - Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
Craig Eugene Thompson was born on January 31, 1952, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Carroll Eugene and Elaine Mary (Schoenbeck) Thompson. He graduated with the SEMCO Class of 1971 in Gilman, Iowa.
Craig worked as a machinist at Emerson - Fisher Controls and was a member of the UAW Local 893 in Marshalltown. Craig was a devoted gardener, caring for both vegetables and flowers. His flowers were a splash of color to share with others. Craig enjoyed visiting with his buddies over morning coffee and the freedom of the open road on his motorcycle. Craig also had a passion for saltwater aquariums. He had his own 500-gallon tank of fish and corals, as well as dissecting, growing, and selling corals to other aquarium enthusiasts.
In death, Craig rejoins his parents: Carroll and Elaine Thompson; son: Troy Eugene Thompson; brother: Douglas Wayne Thompson; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Left to cherish his memory are his son: Ty Matthew Thompson; grandchildren: Desmond Rion Nichols, Dylan Matthew Day, Ashley Campbell, and Aaron Burnett; his sisters: Mary Jo Smith, Carole (Dennis) Johnson, and Annette (Jerry) Angle; as well as his nieces and nephews.
Per Craig’s wishes, cremation rites will take place. A private family graveside service will be held at Prairie View Cemetery near Gilman, Iowa. Memorial donations may be directed to Ty Thompson for later designation.
