Crayton Bouchie Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Isburg Funeral Chapels - Pierre on Mar. 13, 2026.
Crayton Douglas Bouchie, 78, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at Edgewood in Pierre, South Dakota.

Crayton was born on July 7, 1947, in Pierre, to Elliot "Cub" and Eileen (Rausch) Bouchie.

Crayton grew up in Agar, graduating in 1965. After graduation he went on to attend Huron College, continuing his basketball career and earning his Bachelor of Science, graduating 1969. After college, Crayton worked for two years in Hosmer as a Biology teacher and head basketball coach.

On a summer night in June 1970, Crayton met Debby Nelson at a Young Republicans dance in Agar. Six months later, they married in Las Vegas. They built a life together on a farm east of Pierre and had their first child, Heather, in February 1973. She was followed by Lindy in August 1977 and Logan in January 1981. Crayton was a proud member of the South Dakota National Guard. He spent much of his life farming. Part of that time was in Agar on the land he grew up, farming side-by-side with his dad. He cherished spending so much time with his parents.

After retiring from farming and ranching, Crayton worked at Lamb Motors in Onida. He really enjoyed working with the entire crew there. In his second retirement, he loved doing anything that involved a tractor and was always willing to help harvest potatoes from the garden. He would always eat the first potato straight from the ground, barely wiping off all of the dirt. For as long as any of his family can remember, Crayton participated in the Tuesday night bowling league with some very dear friends, including his best friend, Mike Ogan.

Crayton loved spending time with his kids and felt lucky to spend time on the farm with his grandkids, Daizy and Diesel.

Crayton is survived by his wife, Debby, and their three children: Heather Bouchie, Lindy (Matt) Geraets, Logan Bouchie, and his two grandkids: Daizy Bouchie and Diesel Bouchie. He is also survived by his siblings: Arlen Bouchie, Mervin Bouchie, Sheryl (Fred) Murray, and Berva (Joe) Noone.

He was preceded in death by both his parents and infant child, Lily Bouchie.

There will be no service. Instead, Crayton's family ask that you toast him as you recall a fond memory of him and hug your loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Countryside Hospice, Dakotabilities in Sioux Falls, or Paws Animal Rescue.
