Creighton Herbert Miller, age 72, passed away on June 15, 2023 in Hermitage, TN. Creighton was a beloved music teacher and band director at Beech High School. He will be remembered for his passion for music and his dedication to his students.
Born December 20, 1950 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the first born of the late Herbert and Carolyn Miller. Creighton grew up in Greenville SC and Wilmington DE. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1968. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of Delaware. He retired from Beech High School in Hendersonville in 2018 after 28 years. He also played on the General Jackson Showboat, in the Lynn Beal Big Band and with many others.
In his leisure time, Creighton enjoyed watching westerns, such as Rawhide, Gunsmoke and the Virginian, and old-time comedies, such as Little Rascals, Laurel and Hardy, and Abbot and Costello. He dreamed of being a cowboy and had participated in staged train robberies. He realized his dream by participating in a cattle drive from Texas to Oklahoma.
Creighton was married to Carolyn Swearingen on September 30, 2006, until her passing in 2017. He is survived by a brother, Randall (Peggy) Miller and sisters, Ruth (Stephen) Driscoll and Susan (George) Heffner. He is also survived by nephews, Kevin (Katie) Driscoll, Colin (Victoria) Driscoll and nieces Brittany (Tyler) Tassone, Danielle (RJ) Hepp, Emily Heffner, Kaitlyn (Graham) Lenker and Kristina (Evan) Miller, and great-nephews and nieces, Kellen, Trevor, Nathan, Charlotte, Anya and Sophia. He is also survived by Carolyn’s family, including her three sons, David, Harold and Dan; and her granddaughters Paris, Ciarra, Hannah, Kaitlynn, Sophia and Bailey.
A celebration of Creighton's life will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Beech High School. The family will receive friends at Beech High School from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the service.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023 in the Kingman-Cline Long Point Cemetery in Neoga, IL.
The family respectfully requests no flowers and a directions regarding memorial contributions will be listed in the coming days.

My deepest condolences go out to the entire family. Creighton was a very special part of my life for a long time. He was a special stepfather to me and a great PopPop to my twins. We have never and never will forget you Creighton. All our love. Kraig, Monique, Kory and Karmen Clearwater. Rest in peace.
