Cressie May Hoopes, 93, of Salem passed away peacefully on March 27,2025 surrounded by her loving family. Cressie was born on November 24, 1931 in Alliance to William H. and Ehrma (Wolfe) Wharton. She was the organist at multiple churches, with Beechwood United Methodist Church, being her last, retiring after 70 years. Cressie was a member of Eastern Star (North Canton Legacy #596), Farm Bureau of Columbiana County and the Duo Decum Club. She enjoyed baking, canning and spending time with family and friends.
Cressie is survived by her children Mark(Cathy) Hoopes of Beloit, Monte(Kathy) Hoopes of Alliance, Marsha(Rex) Johnson of Lehigh Acres FL., Diane(George) Banar of Sumter,SC. and Laura Lee(David) Bianco of Salem. By her 17 Grandchildren Scott Hoopes, Kevin Hoopes, Matt Hoopes, Jason Banar, Joshua Banar, Cressie Reickenbacker, Amy Stoffer, Melody Young, Christopher Stoffer, Olivia Howard, Sadie Savage, Charles Smith, Chad Smith, Nicole Hull, Jessica Drew, Megan Phillips and Mallory Schfield. She is also survived by 56 Great Grandchildren and 15 Great-Great Grandchildren. Cressie was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Donald Hoopes, in March 2012, Brothers Guy Buffington, William Wharton, Jr., Elliot Wharton, Sisters Charm Buffington, Patricia Buffington, Janet Maize, Sister-in-law Joyce Wharton and Great Grandchildren Logan Lee Johnson, Chelsea Stillion and Colby Banar.
A funeral Service will be held at Gednetz-Ruzek and Brown Funeral Home-Sebring Chapel on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at noon with Pastor Jason Banar( officiating. Visitation will be held from 10AM to noon at the funeral home on Wednesday. Burial will take place in Highland Memorial Park in Beloit. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org or the American Cancer Society at www.donate.cancer.org.
