Gednetz-Ruzek-Brown Funeral Home & Cremation ServiceIt is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Delora J. Anthony, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, who left this world peacefully on November 10, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in Beloit, Ohio, on July 17, 1933, Delora dedicated her life to caring for others, spending many years as a devoted nurse and contributing to her community.
Delora was the daughter of Fred and Lucy Weizenecker. She was a loving mother to her five children: Wanda Lee Humphrey (Bill), Jacqueline Mercer, Rodrick Hoopes (Julie), Connie Larson, and Robbin Hoopes (Richard). She instilled in them the values of love, compassion, and resilience, and her legacy will continue through them and their families. Her love of family was profound, and she relished every moment spent with her children, 14 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren, always ready to share a story or a lesson learned through her experiences. She is also survived by two sisters Sally K Barnes and Connie Willhite and stepson Kevin Anthony (Holly). Delora enjoyed homemaking and traveling with her late husband George.
Throughout her youth, Delora and her brother Jim were a dance team, performing at times for USO and Veterans Hospitals. She was a graduate of Beloit High School. Delora was a life-long member of Bethel Church, where she sang in the choir and served for a number of years on the Consistory. She worked as a nurse at Salem Hospital and for Dr Mark Evans. She also worked as a volunteer E.M.T. for the Beloit Fire Department and served for many years on the Beloit City Council and as Council President. Delora was instrumental in starting the Beloit Historical Society along with Lee VanCamp. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brothers Jerry and Jim Weiznecker and her sister Carol Lippincott.
Delora's warmth and zest for life touched everyone around her. She had a wonderful ability to see the beauty in the world and the humor in life. Her laughter was a treasured gift that brought joy to many. Her unwavering strength will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to inspire those she loved.
Rest in peace, Delora. Your love and light will continue to shine brightly in all of us.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Bethel Church or Beloit Historical Society in recognition of her lifelong dedication to her church and community.
Per her request, Delora is being cremated and a memorial service will be held Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Bethel United Church of Christ at 25701 Buck Rd, Beloit. A time of visitation will take place the hour prior to the service, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Friends and family may sign the guest register and send condolences online at www.grfuneralhome.com.
