DESCANSA EN PAZ
CRUZ ALAMO FLORES
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cruz Alamo-Flores, who departed peacefully on May 17, 2024. Cruz was born on September 17, 1928, in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, and made his home in
Springfield, Massachusetts, where he was a vibrant member of the community. A beacon of love and resilience, Cruz's life was a beautiful testament to his strength, spirit, and enduring faith. As Victor Hugo once said, "What makes night within us may leave stars," and Cruz left many stars in the hearts of those who knew him.
Cruz was a man of many talents and passions. His love for his Puerto Rican heritage was ever-present, reflected in his passion for traditional music, culture, and cuisine. He was a raconteur of old tales and a reservoir of wisdom that he generously shared with everyone around him. His legacy is not defined by what he possessed but by what he gave – an abundance of love, wisdom, and inspiration. He was a loving brother, a devoted father, and an adored grandfather and great-grandfather. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Cruz lived his life embodying these words, making a significant difference in the lives of those he touched.
Cruz is survived by his children, Nilda Alamo, Cruz Cruz, and Alexander Flores; his son-in-law, Daniel Barbosa; his grandsons, Dariel Barbosa and Luis Perez; his great-grandsons, Yancarlos Delgado, Yariel Delgado, and Julian Delgado; his granddaughter-in-law, Natalia Delgado; and his sisters, Abelina Flores and Basilia Flores. He is preceded in death by his father, Esteban Alamo.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 9:000 AM to 11:00 AM, at Puerta Del Cielo Funeral Home, located at 730 State Street,
Springfield, MA., followed by his burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street,
Springfield, MA.
