On the morning of Friday, January 10, 2025, Cruz went to be with the Lord. She was born June 2, 1953, in Karnes City, Texas to the late Maximo Sr. and Ramona Castaneda. Later in April of 1990 Cruz married Mario Valdez Castillo in Tahoka cherishing thirty four years of a loving marriage. For numerous years, Cruz worked as a housekeeper at the Ramada Inn, where her dedication and warm spirit left a lasting impression on guests and colleagues alike. She embraced her career with pride and instilled values of hard work and perseverance in her family.

Cruz was a woman of deep faith, her Catholic beliefs guiding her through life's trials and joys. She found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially in the companionship of her beloved parrots, Rocky and Lassie. Her passion for nature blossomed in her love of gardening and caring for her plants, lemon and orange trees, making her home a warm and inviting sanctuary. In quieter moments, Cruz could be found crocheting, creating beautiful treasures that she would lovingly share with family and friends. She also enjoyed the simple pleasures of shopping, whether online or at Walmart. However, her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, they will always remember the memories of love, compassion, and strength she shared with them.

Her spirit will forever shine brightly through the lives of her family and friends, a testament to the incredible woman she was. May she rest in peace, embraced by the love she so easily found and shared

She is preceded in death by her parents Maximo Sr. and Ramona Castaneda; her son Mario Castillo Jr.; and grandsons Baby Joe Flores, Jesse Ramirez Jr., Jeremiah Ramirez, Jeremiah Anthony Ramirez and Lil’ Rick Barboza III; and granddaughter Yesenia Castillo
