Curtis Lee Bailey, 82, of Roanoke, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at his residence. He was born in West Virginia on November 22, 1942 a son of the late Wannie Lee Bailey and India Rose Brown Bailey.
Curtis started out as a coal miner in Linco, WV. He became a Virginia State Trooper in 1964 in (Area 38) Allegheny Co. Curtis was promoted to Sgt. in 1976 to (Area 29) Vansant. During that time in 1985 he was chosen to attend Northwestern Traffic Institute in Chicago. His next assignment was Div 3 (Area 20) Campbell Co and from there he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to Div 4 Wytheville. His last assignment before retirement was Div 7 Fairfax. He took great pride in his family, ensuring they had more than they needed and he continuously encouraged and supported each of us in our lives and careers.
Curtis is survived by his wife of 63 years, Diana Bailey; his children, Michael Bailey (Judith), Lisa Elaine Sylvester (Bill), Christopher Curtis Bailey (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Taylor, Abbi, Hailey, Hannah, Trey and Ellie; his great-grandchildren, Nova and Zayne; his brother, Stanley Bailey (Naoma).
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Rd. Roanoke, VA 24019 with Rev. William Owsley officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request for donations to be made to the Virginia State Police Association Emergency Relief Fund. https://foundation.vspa.org/donation/
