Curtis David Bateman

CURTIS DAVID BATEMAN of Hooper, Utah passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024, at the age of 50, following a long and stubborn battle with diabetes. Curtis passed away at Intermountain Medical Center, in Salt Lake City, after spending the evening surrounded by his parents and family.

Curtis was born in Ogden, Utah on November 21, 1973, to his father David James Bateman and his mother Sheryl Ann Wilson. The first child of two children. Curtis grew up in Hooper, Utah, where he attended Hooper Elementary School. For many years, his family lived in the country, and it was here that Curtis developed his deep passion for fishing and hunting. Later, Curtis attended Roy High School, where he graduated with many close friends. It was during his high school years that he fell in love with Rock music, and most of all for the band KISS!

Curtis had a tremendous ability to make those around him laugh and feel special. Everywhere he went, he would strike up a conversation with just about everyone and in doing so, he made a tremendous number of friends throughout his lifetime. He treated everyone with respect and kindness. Curtis was strong and stubborn, yet he was always fiercely loyal and protective of those whom he loved. Perhaps more than anything, he will be remembered and cherished for his unrelenting willingness to sacrifice and share whatever he had with others.

Curtis had a lifetime love affair with rockhounding, and he would do it anywhere! He could spend hours combing gravel along the side of the road. Sifting through piles of seemingly useless rocks, only to find all beautiful stones that had been previously overlooked – and boy could he spot them! His attention to detail, and always seeing value where others couldn’t, went far beyond just rocks. Curtis always saw the good and potential in everyone and every situation he encountered!

At a very early age, Curtis developed a lifelong passion of hunting and fishing. He was an exceptionally skilled marksman – or just very lucky! He failed hunters’ safety the first time, because all his bullets went through the same hole on the target. As a young man, the first time he shot at a duck, he got three with one bullet. He especially enjoyed Salmon and Steelhead fishing on the Salmon River in Idaho. He would fish anywhere – ditches, ponds, streams, even slews! When it came to fishing, he had the patience of a saint! He’d spend hours upon hours, just sitting by the water, holding his fishing pole and waiting for that bite – and if there were fish, he’d find them!

Curtis will be sorely missed by his family, loved ones and his multitude of friends! His family will miss his hilarious jokes that never fail to put a smile on everyone’s face. 

Curtis was preceded in death by his Step-Father Ronald E. Wilson, his Grandparents Percy & Maevon Bateman, & Marvin and Deanna Ross. He is survived by his mother Sheryl Wilson; Father David Bateman; Brother Ryan Bateman; Step-Grandmother Georgina Ross; Nephews: Daniel Bateman, Gabriel Bateman, Greg Bateman, & James Bateman. 

Funeral Services will be held Monday November 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary. Friends may visit with family Sunday November 10, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

The family would like to give special thanks and express their gratitude to all the nurses and medical staff who supported Curtis, and especially to his mother Sheryl, who was his daily caretaker who selflessly & tirelessly cared for Curtis through his final months.
