Curtis Ray Hill, a lifelong resident of High Point, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, at Westchester Manor. He was born in Guilford County on May 29, 1936, the beloved son of the late Charles E. Hill and Daisy B. Teague Hill.
Curtis entered the United States Army in 1955, proudly serving his country during the Korean War. After a brief break following his wartime service, he continued his military commitment in the North Carolina National Guard, where he served faithfully for 20 years before retiring. Following his honorable military service, Curtis worked for the Guilford County School System performing maintenance, where he was known for his dependability and strong work ethic.
A man deeply respected in his community, Curtis lived a life rooted in service and generosity. He was a devoted member of the Junior Order for more than 25 years and gave countless hours supporting its mission. Curtis also served on the Board of Directors for the American Children's Home and on its Grounds Committee, always willing to help wherever he was needed. He worked side by side with loved ones each year selling tickets for the annual Car Show and was instrumental in helping establish the first museum the Junior Order ever had, a legacy that continues to thrive today.
Beyond organized service, Curtis gave freely of himself in everyday life. He donated more than 20 gallons of blood over the years and owned a handyman business through which he provided much of his work free of charge, helping friends, neighbors, and anyone in need. His kindness was quiet, constant, and genuine.
Curtis often reflected on his life with humility and gratitude, saying, "My life has been good at times and bad at times, but through it all has been wonderful. Life is what you make it, through the grace of God." Those words perfectly reflected the faith, generosity, and love that defined his life.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Betty Goins and Jane Hill; his children, Curtis Hill and Troy Wilson; his parents; and his twelve brothers and sisters.
Curtis is survived by his cherished grandchildren, Paige Passerallo (Mark), Gray Hill (Adrienne), and Sue Vergowven (Bobby); several beloved great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, who will carry on his legacy of kindness and service.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to his nieces, Cheryl Leeps and Dianne Hill Freeman, for their unwavering support, time, and compassionate care for Pawpaw during his decline.
Funeral services, led by Ken Bowers, will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Salisbury National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Children's Home, PO Box 1288, Lexington, NC 27293-1288.
