William Clarence "Bill" Mangum Jr.

Mr. William "Bill" Clarence Mangum, Jr., 93, resident of High Point, died February 22, 2026 at Hospice Home of High Point.

He was born March 2, 1932 in Hillsborough, NC, a son to William Clarence Mangum, Sr. and Bessie Pearl Neighbours Mangum. After finishing High School at Hillsborough High, he joined the Air Force on August 7, 1950, and after basic training, teletype and crypto schools, he was assigned to 1st Radio Squadron Mobile (RSM) in Japan and Korea. 1st RSM later became 6920th Security Group. After 25 months, he was reassigned to the NSA HQ at Arlington Hall VA until his honorable discharge in August 1954.

Bill spent 11 years in the finance industry managing offices in Sumpter and Columbia SC and High Point NC. He joined Swaim Supply in March 1964, which later became Hughes Supply in 1994, as a salesman of plumbing, heating, and air conditioning supplies and equipment. Former member Colonial CC, VFW #2756, American Legion #87. Life member Elks Lodge #1155 and Oakview Country Club where he was president twice.

His wife, Carol Lorraine Lovette Mangum, preceded him in death on February 6, 2026. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Scoggins.

Surviving are two sons, W. Darryl Mangum of Thomasville and James B. "Jimmy" Mangum of Winston-Salem; a sister, Becky Roberts of Durham; a granddaughter, Ashley Mangum; and two nieces, Susan Scoggins and LeeAnn King.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point with Rev. Mark Loy officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:30-2:30 p.m., at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
