Mr. Curtis Johnson, 95 of Ray City, Georgia passed away March 21, 2025 at the Satilla Hospice House in Waycross, Georgia. Mr. Johnson was born November 17, 1929 in Ellenton, Georgia to the late J. Z. Johnson and to the late Maybelle Hart Johnson. Mr. Johnson has lived in Ray City since the mid-seventies following his military career. He started out in the United States Army Air Corps and then joined the United States Air Force where he served for 23 and a half years serving his country a total of 30 years before retiring including time in the Vietnam War. Mr. Johnson served on the Board of Directors of the Cook County Historical Society, along with his wife, and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Johnson was a gifted mechanic, a skilled refrigeration expert, and a talented electrician whose hands could fix nearly anything. Beyond his technical abilities, he had a deep passion for history, especially the Civil War, World War I, and World War II, often sharing facts with those around him. He was known for his words of wisdom, often saying, "Don't let stress get to you; I don't know why, I don't know how, but things always work out."
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 73 years, Nell Harnage Johnson of Ray City; one daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Steve Tourville of Orlando, Florida; two grandsons, Matthew and Nikita Hays of Phoenix, Arizona; Kevin Tourville of Navarre, Florida; and one great grandson, Christopher Hays of Phoenix.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at the chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Myers officiating. Interment followed at Sparks City Cemetery. Matthew Hays, Christopher Hays, Kevin Tourville, Rick Cook, Phil Harnage and Alan Harnage served as pallbearers. "Shall We Gather at the River" and "Amazing Grace" were played at the service.
