"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going. John 14; 1-4. And so, He Did…On March 7, 2026, in the late afternoon, our beloved Curtis L. Jordan was called home to a place of rest with God. During his transition, he was surrounded by his daughter Ciceley, his sister Vivian, brothers Donald and Paul, brother in love Coiley Johnson, and Chaplain James Laster, Sr.
Curtis Jordan was born January 16th, 1952, to the late Naomi Ruth Butler and Willie Paul Jordan in
Fort Pierce, FL. Curtis received his early education from Frances K. Sweet Elementary and his formal education from Lincoln Park Academy graduating with honors together with the class of 1970; where he served as Student Council President. He continued his studies at Indian River State College. Curtis enjoyed serving as President and was an active member of the LPA Class of 1970. He participated in the planning and organizing of milestone activities. He thoroughly enjoyed his classmates and the times they had together.
Curtis found great pleasure in singing and dancing, activities that brought out the vibrant energy he was known for. He possessed what many called the "gift of gab," able to hold engaging conversations for hours, covering a wide range of topics with enthusiasm and insight. Connecting with others came naturally to Curtis; he approached every interaction with openness and warmth, making friends wherever he went and never meeting a stranger.
Sports were a lifelong passion for Curtis, whether it was high school, college, or professional teams. His enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and he cherished the moments spent watching or discussing them. When engrossed in a game, Curtis preferred not to be interrupted, often offering a gentle look that indicated he wanted quiet so he could fully enjoy the experience.
Among friends, classmates, and family, Curtis's presence was memorable and impactful. His spirited nature and his ability to bring people together truly made him larger than life, leaving lasting impressions on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
During his early years, Curtis worked at Great Value and Piggly Wiggly grocery stores, he cultivated his management skills in the grocery and produce industries. He enjoyed traveling, which led him to
Bridgeport, CT, where his father lived. Curtis worked in the hospitality industry there. His journey also took him to Washington, D.C., where he served as a counselor at a group home and received foster parent training. Later, Curtis relocated to the
West Palm Beach, FL area and became a manager at Publix. Eventually, he made the decision to return to
Ft. Pierce, FL. During this time, he managed the produce gift department at Cushman & Pearl Company. Curtis also returned to Publix and eventually joined both Winn-Dixie and Food Lion. During that time, he also relished in managing his sister Renee's African American Boutique.
Curtis's final work, which was most meaningful and self-fulfilling, was assisting in the care of his uncle, Charles Butler. They would take walks together, with Uncle Charles riding his scooter. They would spend time outdoors in the front yard under the big oak tree listening to music of various genres. They often sat in the garage singing and talking. In July 2020, Curtis suffered a stroke and could no longer provide personal care for him. Uncle Charles deeply missed his nephew; his support, their conversations, and watching television together.
Church attendance was a vital part of Curtis's life. He was known for his faithful service in the choir, with the usher board and other areas in ministry. He loved to to be called on to sing for the Lord. One of his favorite songs to sing was "Christ is All." Curtis's faith remained strong. Even in his final hours he continued to call on Jesus, as his savior.
As it is written in the Book of Life; Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.
