Curtis Lee Patton, age 71, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

A visitation will be held in his honor on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Mt. Hebron Baptist in Des Moines from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Following the visitation, family and friends are welcome to share their tributes to Curtis. He will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Born on August 20, 1954, in Sardis, Mississippi, to Curtis was the son of C.S. and Christine (Thompson) Patton. At a young age he moved to Des Moines with his parents and siblings. Curtis attended Tech High School. After completing his education, he began a career in maintenance with the Iowa Department of Transportation.

On August 17, 1985, Curtis married Wanda Graves, the love of his life. Together, they built a family and created a warm, loving home in Des Moines. An accomplished musician, Curtis showcased his talent as part of the Family Gospel Band alongside his father and performed with the band Cold Sweat.

A devoted and lifelong member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, Curtis contributed his musical skills as the lead guitarist for the church choir.

In addition to his passion for music, Curtis enjoyed spending quality time with his family, bowling, working on cars, and fixing things around the house. He was known as a jack of all trades and had a particular fondness for sports, especially basketball and following the St. Louis Cardinals.

Curtis is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda Patton; sons Curtez Patton and Corey (Jessie) Patton; grandchildren JeCari and Cobe; siblings Nancy, Steve, and Gary Patton; his granddog, Curry; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Bernie "Faye" Brown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to his family.

Hendersons Funeral & Cremation Care has been entrusted with the care of Curtis and his family.
