Curtis E. Peterson, age 74, of Astoria, SD passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler, MN. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 10th at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Astoria, SD. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6pm on Sunday, June 9th at the Houseman Funeral Home-Birk Chaple in Hendricks, MN with prayer service at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors will be at the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery near Astoria. Houseman Funeral Home-Birk Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements.
Curtis Eudell Peterson was born in Hendricks, MN on June 8th, 1949 to Ernest and Merrill (Moe) Peterson. He was raised on the farm around the community of Astoria.
Curt enlisted in the Navy in 1968, joining the ranks of the Construction Battalion better known as the Seabees. He was sent to Vietnam where he operated heavy equipment. He was honorably discharged in July of 1970.
On June 12th, 1971 Curt was united in marriage to Nancy Jean Thoreson at the First Lutheran Church in Hendricks, MN. To this union they were blessed with four children: Travis, Kristi, Tricia, and Misti.
Curt worked various jobs throughout his life including farming, operating heavy equipment, and over the road trucking. Curt loved any job that gave him the opportunity to work with big machinery.
Curt loved having and working with draft horses, vintage tractors, and motorcycles. He also loved to sit around the kitchen table and visit with family and friends. There was always your choice of beverage and a good conversation to be had, along with the occasional witty comeback or funny joke or story that Curt was known for telling. He was a member of the Bakken-Eggen American Legion in Astoria.
Grateful for having shared Curtis' life are his four children: Travis (Kelly) Peterson, Astoria, Kristi (Terry) Lovre, Clear Lake, Tricia (Chad) Fuller, Hendricks and Misti (Matthew) Thomas, Gary, SD; 11 grandchildren: Josh (Kierstin) Lovre, Shaune (Alexis) Lovre, Scott Lovre, Ty Lovre, Cody Peterson, Whitney, Jayden (Cameron), Kannan Fuller, and Kolby, Newt and Emma Thomas; four great-grandchildren: Kyllah, Jek, Jag and Juniper Lovre; his siblings: Delbert (Sue) Peterson, Volga, SD; Dean Peterson, Lead, SD; and Rose Haug, Crooks, SD; and one brother-in-law, Rich (Patty) Thoreson, Brookings, SD; uncle, Carroll (Diane) Moe, Watertown, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; granddaughter, Hally Lovre; his parents, Ernest and Merrill Peterson and his in laws, Alvin and Thelma Thoreson
