Curtis Lovell Riley was born May 30, 1964 in
Columbia, SC to Hilda Bynum Waller and the late
James Edward Riley. He departed his earthly life on January 7, 2025 at home with his loving
and devoted wife, along with his fur babies. Curtis was affectionately called "Blow" by his
family and friends.
Curtis was educated in Richland School District 1 and graduated from C.A. Johnson High School
Class of 1982. After graduation, he worked with his father and brother in the family business,
Riley Cafeteria and the Candy Shop. After the closing of the Candy Shop, he became employed
at Al Nix Auto Sales as The Detail Manager for 17 years. Where he took pride in his work and
enjoyed providing service with excellence.
Curtis became a member of First Nazareth Baptist Church where he was baptized at an early age.
He faithfully attended services and enjoyed the preached word by Rev. Blakely Scott. Curtis was
steadfast in his faith and his belief in the Love of GOD. When Curtis' father became ill, he met
the love of his life De Joyce Williams of
Columbia, SC. After dating for 6 years, they joined in
holy matrimony on December 31, 2005 by Rev. Blakely Scott.
Curtis was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed attending
social gathering with friends, playing cards and joyriding around the city either on his
motorcycle or in his collection of old school rides. In his community, Curtis was known as the
neighborhood police, due to his attention to detail.
In addition to his father, James Edward Riley; he was preceded in death by his sister, Maude
Denise Riley; his brother, Robert Lee Riley; his grandmother, Charlotte "Big Mama" Bynum;
and his fur baby, Daisy Riley.
Curtis leaves behind to cherish memories of him, his loving and devoted wife of 18 years, De
Joyce Riley; his loving children; Adrian (Smurf) Porterfield, Lamar (TaterHead) Bovain, Tiffany
(Bryant) Jamison, LaQuita Riley (Corey) James, Brandon Riley, Ryan Scott, and Hikeem
Williams; oldest grandchild, Ny-Asia Scott and 17 other grandchildren; his fur babies, Chyna
Chanel and Cashmere Cameron Riley; his mother, Hilda Waller; his father and mother-in-law,
Robert and Dorethea Williams; sisters, Jamesetta Riley (Robert) Beauford, Sandra (James)
Jones, Lynnette (Bryan) Ford, Debbie (Samuel) Duckett, Angie McMillian and Tonya
McMillian; Sisters-in-law, Karen Scott Riley, Lanita Williams, Roberta Williams, Ledell Rivers
and Annie Rivers; sisters-in-love, Julie (Mike) Esposito, Melissa Summers, Shervonne
(LaMonte) Bailey, Kimyatta (Bruce) Damon Dionne (Henry) McKenzie, Lesile (Tori) Beard;
brothers-in-love, James Sanders, Melvin Jones, Larry Sanders, Anthony "Gray Eye" Sanders,
Leroy (Tonya) House, Tyrone (Ronnie) Glover, Fred (Eboney) Moore, Zigmond (Tammy) Osby,
Barry Kinley, Ronnie (Gretchen) Scott, Tyrone (Diana) DeLoach, Tony (Shirpoli) Blair, and
Kevin Rice; god-parents, Lavern Carson and Odell (Francis) Rice; god-children, Robert (CoCo)
Riley Jr., Kyra McBee, Kaydra Duckett, Brittany Belton and Antwon Gleaton; a host of aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors and co-workers that loved him dearly.
