A Time to Live...
Our dear beloved brother, Samuel James Morris, joined his earthly life on February 7, 1964, in the city of
Columbia, South Carolina through Lee Otis Morris, Sr. and the late Sandra (Perry) Morris.
Bro. Morris received his education in the Richland County School District of South Carolina and graduated from C.A. Johnson High School in 1983. He went on to earn his carpentry certification from Glen Haven Trade Center, which equipped him with the skills to secure competitive positions at companies such as G.E. Electric and Commercial Plastics. Sam dedicated much of his career to molding, extruding, and cutting materials using process machinery to craft and repair clear sturdy plastic products and furnishings. His talent extended beyond the workplace, as he often shared his best artwork creations with family, friends, and businesses. Among his most cherished projects was a cross he designed and donated to his faith community, the United House of Prayer. This illuminated, high-standing cross was placed atop the church, serving as a visible symbol of his dedication to both his craft and his spiritual home-a contribution he and others fondly remember as a heartfelt expression of his faith and talent.
A Time to Serve...
Bro. Samuel James Morris was born and raised in the United House of Prayer for All People in
Columbia, South Carolina. His deep-rooted faith and dedication to his church were evident through his active service as a 300/500 Junior Elder, a member of the McCollough Youth Ensemble Choir, a shout band musician with the McCollough Kings of the South Shout Band, and a devoted trombonist in the McCollough State Marching Band.
Sam's passion to stay engaged was greatly influenced by his mother, the late and esteemed Sandra Morris, who played a pivotal role in coordinating Sunday School and holiday programs. She ensured her children actively participated, instilling in them a sense of confidence and commitment to their faith.
It was never unusual to find Sam wholeheartedly engaging in deep conversations about his faith and family-topics that brought him immense joy. These discussions allowed him to relive cherished memories and celebrate the place that shaped some of the most meaningful moments of his life.
A Time to Reflect on Family...
As one of the eldest children in the third generation of the late Samuel James (Phyllis) Perry, his maternal grandparents; and paternal grandparents, the late Elder Willis (Juanita) Morris's lineages, Sam naturally took on the role of a natural guiding figure within his family. It was as his gift. He often found himself responsible for looking after others, ensuring younger relatives stayed on the right path, and offering extra protection-especially to his younger sisters and other female family members. Sam did not just speak about the importance of looking out for family-he consistently demonstrated it through his actions. Whenever he noticed a problem, he sought to resolve it, even when his approach wasn't the most popular. He never played favoritism. His focus was always on fairness, striving to bring balance to every situation. This innate sense of responsibility compelled him to regularly check in on family members across the board – A trait that was acknowledge as passed on by a strong father and grandfather figures. Sam was that stand-up type of guy.
