Wayne lived his entire life in Decatur, with the exception of his time in college and the service. After graduation from North Texas, he started work at Convair, later to become General Dynamics, then Lockheed Martin, before being drafted into the Army.

Following basic training, he was stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany, where he worked in the Post Office and was in the honor guard which welcomed incoming dignitaries. Following his discharge, he returned to Decatur where he met his future wife, Wanda Pleasant. They celebrated 62 years of marriage in July. Wayne retired from Lockheed Martin after 40 years with the company where he was an engineering administrative supervisor.

He was a lifetime member of the Methodist church. He moved his membership from Oak Grove Methodist Church to Decatur when he was a teenager and faithfully attended until his health did not permit. He then watched online services. He served in several positions in the church, including the Board of Trustees and Building Committee.

Following his retirement, he was able to serve on the Decatur Cemetery Board for 26 years and the Decatur Board of Adjustments, He also enjoyed woodworking, travel, and his grandchildren in his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Beulah (Wiley) Stone; a brother, Don Stone and sister, Ella Marie Mann.
