Mr. Curtis Wayne Thompson, age 88, of Tallapoosa, GA, passed away November 25, 2024. He was born December 21, 1935 in Tallapoosa to the late Fred and Mary Thompson.
Curtis joined the United States Army in September of 1954 in Atlanta, GA. After bootcamp and Cryptographer School, he was sent to Paris, France where he stayed in the NATO barracks and served in the Secret Service. He was discharge from the Army in September of 1957 at Camp Gordon. Upon his return home, he graduated with a Masters Degree from West Georgia College and taught in the Haralson County School System for over 30 years. Curtis was a devoted citizen of Tallapoosa. He was a member of West View Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Tallapoosa Masonic Lodge #126 for over 50 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Audrey Janet Thompson, of Tallapoosa; daughter and son in law, Triska Thompson Rice and Michael Rice, of Blue Ridge, GA; grandsons, Rory Wood and Trey Wood; and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at 2:00PM at West View Missionary Baptist Church with friends, Sherman Driver and Winford Casey speaking and Rev. Alton Stamey officiating. Music will be provided by Patty McClure, Janice Daniel, and the West View Church Choir. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be the Deacons of West View Church, Jerry Aldridge, Johnny Daniel, and Michael Rice. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery with the Tallapoosa Masonic Lodge #126 providing masonic rites and the Haralson County Veterans Association providing military honors.
The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00PM.
